With my full-time job as a wellness teacher, I need to have clothes that are cute and stylish, functional, & durable. I spend part of my day teaching in a traditional classroom and part of my day teaching in a gymnasium or fitness center. On weekends, I wear mostly yoga-style pants around the house or jeans if we are going out. Let’s face it, as a busy mom with 2 young kids; Brent & I barely go out to eat at non-kid friendly restaurants let alone go out on a date. Since date nights are few and far between, I don’t have a closet full of fancy clothes because well, I just don’t wear them. I’ve come to accept this & realize that I need clothes that are functional enough for me to go to work in, and stylish enough for me to wear on the weekends. I have slowly accumulated a few must-haves. Here is a peek into my closet:
Dansko Clogs: What do teachers and medical professionals have in common? They spend a lot of time on their feet and both own at least one pair of Dansko clogs! I put off buying them for a while because of their price. I just had a hard time spending $100+ on a pair of shoes. But I’ve since realized that when you buy quality not only does it last much longer, but it is worth it because it gets worn more often. These shoes are so comfortable and they give me just a bit of extra height without hurting my feet so that’s a bonus.
Athleta Bettona Boyfriend Pant: These are the perfect combination of stylish pant that looks cute with a sweater and functional pant that could be used for running, yoga, or weight training. They are so cute and comfy that I am buying one in each color! I love that I can wear them with a sweater and look professional for the classroom yet bust out a cart-wheel in the gym at the same time 🙂
Lululemon capris-I bought the “running with my homies” capri right before the Marine Corp Marathon and they are my favorite by far. They fit like a second skin and are my first choice to workout in by far. They are the most comfortable capri I own and what I love the most is that they stay put. I am not constantly pulling them up while I work out like I have to do in my cheaper ones. Wait for when they “made too much” and buy something from them. You’ll be glad you did!
Hunter Big Kid Rain Boots-If you wear a women’s size 5 ½-9 then you can fit into a big kid pair of Hunter boots & pay $75 versus $135 for the adult size. I bought the big kids boots with the Welly socks for $40 and the total for both still saved me $20! What I love about these boots is that I can wear them to work all day, my feet stay dry and they are cute too.
Bondi Bands-I think I have a weird shaped head. Seriously, I must have a weird shaped head with crazy curls because no headband stays in place while I exercise except the Bondi Band. It’s wide enough where you can fold it in half or wear it thick. I definitely wear it wide because then it stays put. And with it being so wide it can double as an ear warmer if you run or workout outside. I love that they come with cool sayings on them and they make them for kids (which is good because Moo-Moo’s is always stealing mine!) I also love that it keeps the sweat from dripping in my eyes-yuck and ouch. I think I am a salty sweater too…..
Tall Socks-Not only are they cute, but they are multipurpose. During a WOD, if we are doing any dead-lifts, rope climbs, cleans or snatches from the floor, the tall socks are a must for protecting your shins. I sometimes wear them running for some extra support on the longer run. And let’s face it, tall socks look super cute when paired with shorts or a running skirt. They also are a great sock for wearing under tall boots too. I really like my new socks from Sox Box. I love socks that have cool sayings and just make you feel like a badass when you wear them 🙂 What’s even cooler is that 20% of all SoxBox profits are donated to the Independence Fund, a non-profit group that directly supports our warriors fighting the global war on terror. Score.
