If you would have told me 4 years ago that I would be writing a blog, and liking it, I would have laughed in your face! There was no way that I thought that I either had the time, had anything interesting to say, or that anyone would want to read it. It finally dawned on me that I actually did have something to contribute-my love and passion for all things related to health & fitness. I found myself spending quite a bit of time answering questions about exercise, nutrition, and time management. I was excited to know that others felt that they could ask me questions, and I found that I really enjoyed helping others with their desire to live a healthier lifestyle. The question that I would often get always involved something to the extent of how did I find the time to “do it all.” If I am not at CrossFit box then I am working out in the fitness center in my school, or doing yoga at a local studio. I am lucky enough to work full-time as a middle school wellness teacher. My passion is teaching 7th grade nutrition. I love the middle school population because they are old enough to make most of their own decisions, yet still young enough to not have ingrained bad habits. I instruct my students to take my lessons home to their families. There is no better feeling than getting an email from a happy parent!
I have 2 kids; my son is 10 and my daughter is 7. They are the reason I exist and my motivation for all that I do. My parenting style is the same as my teaching style-lead by example. I want my kids to develop a life-long LOVE of fitness and healthy eating. I want to be able to play with them, horse around with them, tickle them, and keep up with them for as long as I can. I never want to be that mom that has to sit out because I am too out-of-shape to keep up. I have a fantastic husband named Brent. We have been married for 12 years and he is the reason why I am able to do everything I want. Being in the fitness and athletic training field himself, he gets it and supports me 100%. He also understands that I am just a better person to be around when I am exercising; I have more patience and he certainly doesn’t complain as to what all this CrossFitting and clean eating has done to me aesthetically!
I have been in the fitness, athletics, and wellness field for longer than I care to admit…it’s going on 20 years at this point! I have a BS in Physical Education/Athletic Training from the University of Rhode Island and an MEd from Springfield College in Applied Exercise Science/Strength & Conditioning. I started off my career as a group exercise instructor and personal trainer. Strength & conditioning coach & massage therapist were a few other jobs that I held in conjunction with being a full-time athletic trainer at the high school level. Needless to say even before I was a “fit mom” I have always had a full plate. I just can’t sit still!
I love to cook and make as much food as I can from scratch. I grew up in an Italian house where my mother was always cooking. And by cooking I mean 40 quarts of gravy in one batch that would be frozen in our humongous chest freezer to have on hand whenever “the army” was coming over for dinner.
So how do I do it? How do I work full-time, take grad classes or have 2 kids, exercise almost daily, and cook like a stay-at-home-mom? Well you are just going to have follow and read our blog to find out!
